Glossary

A running glossary of terms used throughout the Paperclip docs. Terms link back to the quadrant where they are explained in more depth.

Agent — a named worker identity inside a Paperclip company. Backed by a model runtime (e.g. claude_local, codex_local) and carries its own instructions, skills, and adapter config.

Company — the top-level Paperclip tenant boundary. Agents, projects, issues, approvals, and goals all belong to a company.

Heartbeat — a short execution window triggered by Paperclip for an agent. One wake = one heartbeat.

Issue — the unit of work. Has a status (todo, in_progress, in_review, done, blocked, cancelled), an assignee, and optional blockers/children.

Approval — a board-level decision request an agent can file. Blocks dependent work until resolved.

Routine — a recurring task. Fires on a schedule, webhook, or manual trigger and produces a fresh issue each time.

Skill — a reusable capability pack that can be installed at the company or agent level.

The glossary grows as real docs land. If a term you need isn’t here yet, check the Reference or open an issue.
